Students who do not plan to earn a degree from Old Dominion University at this time but wish to enroll in course work at the institution are considered nondegree students. As a nondegree student, you are not required to attend PREVIEW. If you are admitted as a nondegree freshman who missed the application deadline and want to get started on classes while submitting an application and credentials for the next available semester, you are strongly encouraged to attend PREVIEW.

Some examples of nondegree students are: visiting students, those taking classes for personal and/or academic growth, high school students involved in dual-enrollment, and students who have missed the application deadline and want to get started on classes while submitting an application and credentials for the next available semester. If it is your intent to apply for degree seeking status at the undergraduate or graduate level you should do so prior to completing your first semester as a non-degree student. If you are interested in a certificate program or the teacher licensure only program, we strongly suggest you work closely with the appropriate department to secure acceptance into the desired program. Department contact information is available on the Old Dominion University Web site under “Academics”.

As a non-degree student, the following restrictions apply:

Financial aid is not available.
Transfer credits will not be evaluated.

You are strongly encouraged to contact an academic department before registering for courses. As a nondegree you can receive a copy of a curriculum sheet by contacting or visiting the department of your intended major, but you may encounter difficulty getting advised due to your nondegree status. Due to the lack of a transcript credit evaluation, there is a possibility that advisors may not be able to advise you as a prospective student. Nondegree seeking students who are interested in attending PREVIEW should contact the Orientation/PREVIEW Office, preview@odu.edu or 757-683-3428 to obtain a hard copy version of the PREVIEW brochure via email or the US Postal Service.
